With a bit of wire and a few hand tools, you can make solder-free chain for bracelets, necklaces or earrings.
This is a beginners class and does not require any previous experience. It's also suitable for anyone who has dabbled in bead-work or other jewelry projects and is looking to up their wire working game.
We'll cover tool and materials fundamentals, practice a number of different link styles and learn to shape a simple handmade clasp. This type of skill can be done almost anywhere - if you have a surface to work on and a few small tools you can add making solder-free chain your metalworking skill set!
Live Class options will be held over Zoom and include a materials kit, access to short demo videos and a full recording of the class session. A link to the demo videos will be emailed to you with the class pdf when we ship your kit. The session recording will be sent to you within 24hours of class completion. Signup deadlines are one week prior to each class to ensure enough time to receive your kit in the mail.
The Self-Study option includes a materials kit and written instructions / tips referenced below.
Materials kit includes:
- 3' 20g brass wire
- 3' 18g bronze wire
- 2' 16g copper wire
- pdf of wire info, tips + tricks and link shapes (sent via email when kit ships, hard copy included in package)
To complete this project you should also have round nose pliers, flat nose pliers, chain nose pliers, flush cutter or wire cutters + a small file, ruler or measuring tape. A Sharpie and a ballpoint pen are also helpful.
We keep a small selection of new tools on hand - if you need a starter kit, please let me know. I can share info on what I have in stock and forward info for other suppliers.
*The kit is intended to be used during class so that we're all working with the same materials to learn the process. Even if you have your own wire, I would definitely recommend using the kit to practice during class and saving your materials for your next project.
